// BiLE (Birmingham Laptop Ensemble) //
BiLE (Birmingham Laptop Ensemble) are a collaborative group of composers and performers of instrumental and electroacoustic music. Six artists were brought together through their shared interest in live performance and desire to perform and improvise together in an interactive ensemble.
BiLE has an open attitude towards experimentation with sound, allowing members of the group to bring their own tools and musical experience to the ensemble. This enables composers with varied backgrounds to contribute to every aspect of the performance.
I am a composer and performer with BiLE.
// SOUNDkitchen //
SOUNDkitchen is dedicated to the promotion of composers and artists working in the field of sound. At its core is a collective of composers with a background in electroacoustic and experimental music. SOUNDkitchen provides a regular platform for local artists to explore, experiment and present their work alongside that of international composers and sound artists. It offers a programme of exciting and eclectic new music that uses technology to form part of the aesthetic experience.
SOUNDkitchen’s ethos is to support local artists and provide professional development to those in early stages of their careers through networking events and the opportunity to contribute to a thriving sound art community.
I am a member of the core collective of composers who run SOUNDkitchen.
// Network Music Festival //
I am the Project Manager for the Network Music Festival, which aims to present new musical forms and ideas where networking is central to the aesthetics, creation or performance practice of the work.
The Network Music Festival will take place in January 2012 in Birmingham (UK) in the heart of Birmingham’s creative community. Presenting a diverse programme of laptop performances, live coding, communicating home-made musical gadgets, sound installations, workshops and everything else in between, the Network Musical Festival boasts an international line-up including some of Birmingham’s best home-grown hi-tech musical performers.
// CoMA (Contemporary Music for All), Youth Project //
CoMA is dedicated to enabling amateur musicians to get involved in contemporary music. CoMA commission leading composers to write music which is artistically challenging and suited to the technical abilities of amateur ensembles. We run amateur contemporary music ensembles throughout the UK plus workshops and events.
I am currently working on developing a project with CoMA to engage young people in contemporary music.
